80% of all the aches and pains we experience begin with poor posture and body mechanics. Especially when it comes to knee pain, proper exercises and body mechanics are crucial. Learn what you can do for yourself to get those knees to stop aching.

Acu-Point Location - Saturday February 4th

Learn to quickly find and use many of the most powerful acupuncture points. Learn which ones are most responsive to finger pressure. Learn points to alleviate pain and other common health problems.

Improving Memory, Learning and Concentration - Saturday February 11th

A strong mind in a strong body was the ideal of the ancient Greeks as well as the ancient Chinese. Modern research has confirmed that the brain responds to exercises just as the muscles do. Learn exercises from Tai Chi’s Five Excellences to improve memory, learning and concentration.

CPR Training/Basic First Aid ($25...$35 w/card) - Saturday February 25th

Apply acupoint theory and learn to save lives! Everyone should be up to date on their CPR skills and first aid training... learn skills that can reduce complications in emergency situations.

Getting a Good Night's Sleepn - Saturday March 3rd

Learn to “calm the spirit” and ensure a good night’s sleep. This tutorial will focus upon the root causes of most sleep disorders and easy to use, self help techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Learn acu-points and herbs for getting a good night’s Sleep.

Meditation and the Psychology of Optimal Experience - Saturday March 10th

To those who can perform it well, T'ai chi chuan is a joyous artistic performance where all separation between mind and body disappear and the world is perceived as humming with life, vibrant, beautiful and somehow indefinably sacred. The meditation aspect of Tai Chi, and the changes in perception it produces, may explain the profound effect that T'ai chi has had on science, philosophy, art and culture in China. It affects practitioners at the very core of being... consciousness itself.

Sessions are on Saturdays from 10:30 am-12 noon
Cost:$40 per session (workstudy is available)

Promoting Physical Activity in the community:

Jacqui was re-appointed to the Colorado Governor's Council for Physical Fitness and will serve
as 1st Vice-President. She was also elected Secretary of the National Associaton for Health and Fitness. So, stay tuned for exciting news from Exercise Is Medicine.

Joe accepted an invitation to serve on the Advisory Board of We Play It Forward, a non-profit that encourages physical activity in Colorado through equipment and monetary donations.

Master Jerry Silva's National Martial Arts Academy was recognized as the 2010 Top Martial Arts School when they demonstrated in Washington, D.C. this month.

Zhu Xilin will be performing again in David Taylor Dance Theatre's production of " The Nutcracker."


   

The Art of Fitness

received the prestigious PINNACLE GOLD AWARD for "BEST NEW EVENT 2010"

The International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) paid tribute to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival (CCAF) on September 15, 2010 during the IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards Ceremony held at the IFEA’s 55th Annual Convention & Expo in Saint Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., where the CCAF was presented with 17 awards in the prestigious awards competition.

Walking Wednesdays 2012 and SUMA - Shape Up with Martial Arts:

Jacqui Shumway's Walking Wednedays has become a national "movement" associated with Safe Routes to School.

Denver's Walk A Child To School started in 1997 at Park Hill Elementary and is now a month-long international event in October; Denver Public Schools is now coordinating with CDOT, Safe Routes to School, CLIF Bars and the Colorado Governor's Council for Physical Fitness to spread walking and biking throughout Colorado.
